CGST / SGST Breakdown

For intra-state sales, GST is split equally between CGST (Central) and SGST (State). Our calculator automatically shows this 50/50 split, making it easy to fill out GST returns and invoices.

Common GST Rates (Updated)

India's GST structure has recently been simplified into three core slabs: 0% for essentials and life-saving drugs, 5% for basic household products, and 18% for most standard services and consumer durables. A new 40% rate applies to luxury goods, cars, and tobacco, largely replacing the old 28% slab. Our calculator supports the new standard rates plus any custom rate you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to calculate GST on an amount?

To add GST: Final Amount = Original Amount × (1 + Rate/100). To remove GST from an inclusive amount: Original Amount = Total Amount / (1 + Rate/100). Our calculator does this automatically for you.

What are the current GST rates in India?

Following recent GST 2.0 simplifications, India primarily operates with three core slabs: 0% (essentials/exempt), 5% (basic goods), and 18% (standard goods and services). A new 40% slab applies to luxury and sin goods. The older 12% and 28% slabs have been largely phased out.

What is the difference between CGST and SGST?

For intra-state transactions, GST is split equally into CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) and SGST (State GST). For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state transactions, the full rate is charged as IGST.

What does 'Add GST' vs 'Remove GST' mean?

'Add GST' (Exclusive) calculates the tax to add on top of the base price. 'Remove GST' (Inclusive) extracts the original price and tax amount from a total that already includes GST.

Can I enter a custom GST rate?

Yes. Use the 'Custom' input field next to the preset rate buttons to enter any GST percentage, such as 0.25% or 3%.

Is this calculator accurate for business invoicing?

Yes. The calculator uses the standard GST formulas used in Indian taxation. However, for official invoicing, always verify with your CA or accounting software as special rules may apply for certain goods and services.
